English Language Program

The English language program aims to empower learners with English language proficiency and study skills through innovative learning techniques, quality instruction and a creative learning environment to fully participate in the college community and advance their academic and professional potential.

The program is characterized by the following:

  • ◈ A focus on all language skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Vocabulary & Grammar)

  • ◈ A focus on learning skills

  • 400hours directly with teachers certified by the University of Cambridge

  • Extra hours of self-study exercises using:
    • ⟐ Multiple interactive applications
    • ⟐ E-Learning websites
  • 4 counselling sessions for each student
  • ◈ The duration of each level is 16 weeks / one full term

  • ◈The total number of hours is 500 divided into:
  • ⟐ 400 hours of lessons
    ⟐ 100 hours of self-study

  • ◈ The number of weeStudents take a placement test to determine their

  • ◈ The study hours are from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm from Sunday to Thursday
  • ◈The study 5 hours per day are divided into:
  • ⟐2 hours for reading and writing skills
    ⟐ 2 hours for speaking and listening skill
    ⟐ 1 hour for educational projects

Service Procedures:

  • ◈ Students take a placement test to determine their level.

  • ◈ The first placement test is to determine whether the student is level 1 or 2.

  • ◈ If the student’s level is higher than level 2, they take a second placement test to decide whether they are in level 3 or should be waived.

The Academic English Program is for those who aspire to:

  • ◈ Improve their English for academic purposes
  • ◈ Complete their studies in private or foreign universities
  • ◈ Raise their score on the TOEFL and IELTS test

Important Dates:

  • ◈ Spring Term Registration Period is from January 9th to January 13th
  • ◈ Spring Term begins on January 16th Spring and ends on May 19th
  • ◈ Summer Registration Period May 22nd - June 2nd
  • ◈ Summer Term begins on June 5th and ends on August 25th

Admission Conditions

Applicants to ELC need to score the following to be admitted:

Below is the score required for each level:

Direct to Major (Freshman) High B1 B2 72 and above Must do writing 35 or above 5 or above (in all four skills) 160 or above/B2 (At least B1 in all four skills) They must do Linguaskill to ensure they are ready for the major.
ELC Level 3 B1 41-71 Must do writing 32 - 34 4.5 140–159 Use Task B questions. They must meet the criteria specified below.
ELC Level 2 Higher A1 - A2 12-40 Must do writing 0-31 4 110–139 Use Task A questions. They must meet the criteria specified below.
ELC Level 1 Pre-A1 - lower A1 0.1-11 NA A 82–109 They do not need to do a writing test.
